The clarinet is one of the most expressive woodwind instruments — warm and lyrical in its lower register, bright and carrying in its upper range. I offer one-to-one clarinet lessons for students of all ages and levels, from complete beginners to those preparing for advanced ABRSM grades.
I teach from my home studio in Southgate and travel to students across North London for home visits.
What I Teach
Clarinet lessons begin with the fundamentals — embouchure, breath support, tone production, and basic fingering. From there, lessons develop technique, musicality, sight-reading, and — where relevant — ABRSM exam preparation.
I work with students across a wide range of repertoire, from classical to contemporary, and adapt lessons to reflect each student's interests and goals.
ABRSM Clarinet Exam Preparation
Clarinet is one of my primary instruments and one I have taught at every ABRSM grade level. I prepare students for graded exams from Grade 1 through to the higher grades, covering all four exam components: pieces, scales and arpeggios, sight-reading, and aural tests.
In 2019, I published Klarnet Eğitimi — a comprehensive clarinet method book — which reflects the depth of my knowledge of the instrument and its pedagogy.
Clarinet Lessons for Children
Most children are ready to begin clarinet from around the age of seven or eight, when lung capacity and lip control have developed enough to produce a consistent sound. I work with young beginners patiently and progressively, building technique and confidence without rushing the process.
Clarinet Lessons for Adults
Adult beginners often discover that the clarinet rewards consistent practice quickly — and that the sound they can produce within a few months is already genuinely satisfying. I work with adult learners at all levels, including those returning to the clarinet after a gap of many years.
Home Visits Across North London
I offer home visits to students across North London, including Southgate, Enfield, Barnet, Palmers Green, Finchley, Muswell Hill, and many surrounding areas.
About Your Teacher
My name is Saygın. I graduated from Ege University State Conservatoire in Turkey, where I studied piano and clarinet, and completed a pedagogical formation programme at the same university — giving me both the musical training and the formal teaching skills to work with students of all ages and backgrounds.
Over a 20-year career, I have taught, performed and published. Before moving to London, I performed regularly on national television and major radio stations, and worked as a studio musician on album, commercial and film recordings. In 2019, I published Klarnet Eğitimi — a comprehensive clarinet method book.
In 2020, I moved to London and established North London Music Lessons. My youngest students are five years old — and I also teach working adults who are picking up an instrument for the first time.
