The saxophone has one of the most distinctive and immediately recognisable sounds of any instrument — rich, expressive, and equally at home in classical, jazz, and contemporary music. I offer one-to-one saxophone lessons for students of all ages and levels, from complete beginners to those working towards ABRSM grade exams.
I teach from my home studio in Southgate and travel to students across North London for home visits.
What I Teach
Saxophone lessons start with the essentials — embouchure, breath control, tone production, and fingering. From there, I develop technique, musicality, and repertoire alongside music theory and — where relevant — ABRSM exam preparation.
I work with students across a range of styles and adapt lessons to suit each student's interests, whether that is classical repertoire, jazz improvisation, or simply the music they love.
ABRSM Saxophone Exam Preparation
I prepare students for ABRSM saxophone grade exams from Grade 1 through to the higher grades. Each exam covers four components: pieces, scales and arpeggios, sight-reading, and aural tests. I build a structured preparation plan so students develop every area of the exam — not just the pieces — and arrive at exam day fully prepared.
Saxophone Lessons for Children
Most children are ready to begin saxophone from around the age of seven or eight. I work with young beginners carefully and progressively, building the physical technique and musical instinct that the instrument requires before moving into more demanding repertoire.
Saxophone Lessons for Adults
Many adult beginners are drawn to the saxophone because of the music they love — and that connection to real, meaningful repertoire from the very beginning makes a significant difference to motivation and progress. I work with adult learners at all stages, including those starting completely from scratch.
Home Visits Across North London
I offer home visits to students across North London, including Southgate, Enfield, Barnet, Finchley, Palmers Green, Muswell Hill, Wood Green, and many surrounding areas.
About Your Teacher
My name is Saygın. I graduated from Ege University State Conservatoire in Turkey, where I studied piano and clarinet, and completed a pedagogical formation programme at the same university — giving me both the musical training and the formal teaching skills to work with students of all ages and backgrounds.
Over a 20-year career, I have taught, performed and published. Before moving to London, I performed regularly on national television and major radio stations, and worked as a studio musician on album, commercial and film recordings. In 2019, I published Klarnet Eğitimi — a comprehensive clarinet method book.
In 2020, I moved to London and established North London Music Lessons. My youngest students are five years old — and I also teach working adults who are picking up an instrument for the first time.
